1st May 2025 Moanatairi Track entrance maintenance

Earlier this week TEA met to tidy up the entrance of the Moanataiari Track which we weeded and planted last year. During the dry summer many of the planted saplings had died and plenty of persistent weeds had returned, so this was an opportunity to learn from our earlier experiences and come up with ways to protect our investments of time, money, and sweat in the future!

We removed the weeds and green waste, replanted some hardy kanuka, manuka, and karamū, as well as a few specimens of kōwhai, nikau, and porokaiwhiri.

It’s great to see the new signage and boot cleaning station too, thanks to DoC!

Though the track has been open for some time, this coming Sunday we will celebrate together at the new lookout with everyone who had a hand in its creation.
